Safaricom is Kenya's largest telecommunications and mobile financial services company, headquartered in Nairobi, and one of the most profitable companies in East Africa. Founded in 1997 as a subsidiary of Telkom Kenya and later backed by Vodafone, Safaricom serves more than 40 million customers with mobile voice, data, fibre and enterprise services.
The company is globally renowned for M-Pesa, the mobile money service it launched in 2007, which has become the world's most successful fintech platform, processing billions of transactions annually and transforming financial inclusion across East Africa. Safaricom has expanded into fibre broadband, cloud services, IoT, and in 2023 launched 5G alongside its acquisition of a stake in Ethiopia's telecom market.
For B2B partners, Safaricom offers enterprise connectivity, cloud, IoT and payment APIs through M-Pesa, providing access to one of Africa's most dynamic digital economies. Its dominant market position, financial strength and innovation record make it a key partner for companies entering the East African market.
