There is no reliable way to count the TE Connectivity connectors inside the average car, but industry estimates put it in the hundreds — every sensor, control unit, and light module needs one, and TE makes a large share of them. The company, headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, with roots in the 1941 founding of AMP, is one of the world's largest makers of connectors and sensors, employing about 85,000 people with annual sales near US$16 billion.
TE's products are the nervous system of modern machines: sealed connectors that survive engine bays, high-speed data connectors for autonomous driving, fiber-optic and copper interconnect for data centers, and sensors for industrial and medical applications. Its acquisition history made it a force in harsh-environment connectors for off-highway and rail equipment.
Buyers choose TE when reliability is non-negotiable: automotive and industrial customers qualify its connectors for 15-year vehicle lifetimes, and its engineering support teams help design connectors into products early, which locks in specifications and makes switching suppliers later extremely expensive.
