HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is the world's largest shipbuilder, a founding member of the HD Hyundai group that traces its roots to the establishment of Hyundai Heavy Industries in 1972 by Chung Ju-yung in Ulsan, South Korea. The company employs about 22,000 people and has delivered more than 2,200 ships, including the world's largest container ships, LNG carriers, and offshore drilling units.
Beyond shipbuilding, HHI operates one of the world's largest engine manufacturing plants, producing marine diesel engines, propulsion systems, and generators under license from MAN, WinGD, and other licensors, and builds offshore plants, desalination facilities, and industrial robots through its group affiliates.
For maritime and industrial buyers, HHI is the benchmark for large-scale marine engineering: its Ulsan yard is the largest shipyard complex on earth, and its engine division supplies propulsion systems to shipbuilders and fleet operators worldwide.
