Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.
Construction Machinery
Sany Heavy Industry's slogan is 'Quality Changes the World', and the company's rise is proof the slogan is more than marketing: founded in 1989 in Changsha by Liang Wengen and partners who started welding in a small workshop, Sany is now one of the world's top three construction machinery makers, having displaced Western giants in its home market along the way.
The company's product line mirrors Caterpillar and Komatsu: excavators, concrete pumps, cranes, road machinery, and mining trucks. Its concrete pump trucks — including a 71-meter boom model — set world records, and its crawler cranes have lifted some of China's heaviest wind-turbine components into place. Sany also made headlines with the first fully electric excavator series and an electric concrete mixer, betting early on construction's electrification.
Headquartered in Changsha with roughly 40,000 employees, Sany has expanded manufacturing to India, the US, Germany, Brazil, and Indonesia, and its revenue exceeds US$10 billion. For buyers outside China, Sany's pitch is simple: comparable capability to the incumbents at a price point that undercuts them, backed by a global service network it is still building out.
