Larsen & Toubro, universally known as L&T, is India's largest engineering, procurement, and construction company, founded in 1938 by two Danish engineers, Henning Holck-Larsen and Søren Kristian Toubro. Headquartered in Mumbai, the group employs about 200,000 people and operates across engineering and construction, heavy manufacturing, IT services, and financial services.
L&T's heavy engineering arm builds cranes, excavators, process equipment, and precision components at manufacturing facilities in Surat, Hazira, and Kattupalli, supplying both Indian infrastructure projects and export markets. Its construction division is one of the world's largest, delivering metro systems, power plants, refineries, and defense shipyards across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
For procurement teams, L&T is a dual-role partner: a major buyer of steel, cement, electrical equipment, and machinery for its EPC projects, and a manufacturer of heavy equipment, valves, and process modules sold to industrial customers worldwide.
