When Jamsetji Tata dreamed of building India's first integrated steel plant in the 1890s, his family and bankers called it madness — India had no coking coal of its own and no modern steel industry. Tata Steel proved them wrong, pouring its first steel in 1912 in Jamshedpur, a city the company built and still operates today. For buyers, Tata Steel combines emerging-market cost position with first-world quality systems — its automotive steels are qualified by global OEMs, and its packaging steels dominate Indian food-can production.
