Fortescue is one of the world's largest iron ore producers and, under its rebranding from Fortescue Metals Group in 2023, a company betting its future on green hydrogen and renewable energy. Founded in 2003 by Australian mining magnate Andrew Forrest, the company is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, employs about 12,000 people, and ships roughly 190 million tonnes of iron ore per year — about a fifth of Australia's total exports.\n\nFortescue's iron ore operations in the Pilbara region include the Chichester and Solomon hubs and the Eliwana mine, feeding a private 620-kilometer railway and the Herb Elliott Port at Port Hedland, one of the world's largest iron ore export terminals.
