1 Company in St. Louis, Missouri

Emerson was founded in 1890 in St. Louis by two brothers who bet on a brand-new technology: electric motors and fans. The company made its name powering the fans that cooled American homes and the motors inside appliances — and then spent the next century following electricity wherever it went. Today Emerson is a global leader in automation, the company whose valves, sensors, and software control the world's factories, refineries, and power plants. The transformation was driven by acquisitions that turned a motor maker into a process control powerhouse: Rosemount (pressure and temperature transmitters), Fisher (control valves), and DeltaV (distributed control systems) are all Emerson brands, and together they make the company the go-to supplier for the oil, gas, chemical, and power industries. Its Plantweb digital ecosystem connects thousands of instruments to cloud analytics, letting operators predict equipment failures before they happen. With about 85,000 employees and annual revenue near US$15 billion (after the 2023 divestiture of its industrial software business), Emerson is now focused purely on automation: intelligent devices, software, and control systems for the industries that run the modern world. For plant operators, Emerson's pitch is total control-room coverage — measurement, control, and reliability in one integrated stack.
