B. Braun has been owned and run by the same family since 1839 — five generations, surviving two world wars, the Weimar hyperinflation, and the Nazi era, without ever losing control of the company. It started as a tiny pharmacy in Melsungen, a town of a few thousand people, where founder Julius Wilhelm Braun compounded medicines himself; today it is one of the world's largest medical technology companies.
The company's product range covers the entire hospital supply chain: infusion pumps and IV solutions (its original specialty), syringes and needles, surgical instruments, wound care dressings, and hospital disinfectants. Braun is the global leader in several of these niches — its Braunüle IV catheters and its infusion systems are standard equipment in operating rooms and ICUs on every continent.
With about 63,000 employees and annual revenue near €8.8 billion, Braun operates in 60+ countries and remains remarkably true to its roots: headquarters still in Melsungen (population 13,000), still family-owned, still reinvesting heavily in R&D. For hospitals and healthcare distributors, Braun is the dependable German supplier — not the flashiest brand, but the one whose products clinicians trust without thinking.
