About

Dangote Industries is Africa's largest conglomerate and the industrial empire of Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest person, founded in 1981 in Lagos, Nigeria, as a trading company. The group employs about 30,000 people and generates annual revenue of roughly US$4 billion from cement, sugar, salt, flour, and — since 2024 — petroleum refining.\n\nDangote Cement is the group's crown jewel: with production capacity of more than 50 million tonnes per year, it is the largest cement company in Africa and one of the top ten worldwide, with plants and import terminals across Nigeria and 9 other African countries. The group's $20 billion Dangote Refinery at Lekki, near Lagos, is the largest single-train refinery in the world, processing 650,000 barrels of crude per day and designed to end Nigeria's paradoxical status as an oil exporter that imports its own fuel — it also produces petrochemicals and fertilizers. Dangote Fertilizer, the largest urea plant in Africa, has transformed Nigeria into a fertilizer exporter.\n\nFor suppliers and buyers across Africa, Dangote is the defining industrial player: its cement plants consume enormous volumes of machinery and spares, its refinery procurement has created a new Nigerian equipment market, and its distribution networks make it the default source for cement and fertilizer across West Africa.
