Scientica, s.r.o.

Scientica, s.r.o. is an insect farming operation headquartered in Bratislava, Slovakia, founded by zoology researchers from the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The company produces mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) for use in sustainable animal feed and fertilizer. Its work is supported by more than 25 years of applied insect research carried out by its parent company. Scientica has run multiple research and development projects on large-scale edible insect farming both in Slovakia and abroad. In 2019 it constructed Kenya's first insect farming pilot facility under the SlovakAid program, and in 2020 it developed a scientifically validated large-scale mealworm farming methodology under an APVV research grant. The pilot project was expanded in 2022 into a modern, optimized farm, and the company became Slovakia's first officially registered insect farm. In 2023 it partnered with InsectiPro in Kenya to develop a high-capacity mealworm production facility. In 2024 it became the first Slovak farm authorized to produce and sell insect-based fertilizer (frass).
