About

Rolls-Royce Holdings is a British aerospace and defense company, the world's second-largest maker of aircraft engines for wide-body commercial jets and a global leader in marine propulsion and nuclear power systems. The company's aviation roots date to 1906, when Charles Rolls and Henry Royce founded the original Rolls-Royce; the modern company was formed through nationalization of the aero-engine business in 1971 and re-privatization in 1987. It is headquartered in London and employs about 42,000 people. Rolls-Royce's Trent family of engines powers Airbus A330, A350, A380, and Boeing 787 aircraft, while its Power Systems division (MTU) builds diesel engines and gensets for marine, rail, and defense customers. The company is also a leader in small modular reactors (SMRs) for nuclear power and in all-electric and hybrid aerospace propulsion research. For aerospace and defense supply chains, Rolls-Royce is a prime customer for turbine blades, castings, forgings, and electronic controls, and a supplier of high-value engines and power systems with one of the industry's largest aftermarket service networks.
