About

KGHM Polska Miedź is Poland's state-controlled mining group and one of the world's largest producers of copper and silver, extracting ore from the Legnica-Głogów Copper Belt in southwestern Poland since the 1950s. Headquartered in Lubin, the company employs about 34,000 people and produces roughly 750,000 tonnes of copper and 1,400 tonnes of silver per year, making it the world's seventh-largest copper producer and among the top silver miners.\n\nKGHM's unique advantage is the geology of its Polish mines — underground operations at depths of more than 1,200 meters produce ore grading about 1.5% copper, among the richest large-scale copper deposits in Europe. The company expanded internationally with the 2012 acquisition of Canada's Quadra FNX, adding the Sierra Gorda copper-molybdenum mine in Chile, one of the largest mining projects in South America. Its smelting and refining complex at Głogów and Legnica produces electrolytic copper, silver granules, and by-product metals including gold, rhenium, and selenium.\n\nFor buyers in electronics, power cable, and construction industries, KGHM is a reliable European source of high-grade copper cathode and silver, with EU-based supply chains that avoid the logistics risk of seaborne shipments from Asia and South America.
