H. D. Schulze GmbH & Co. KG

H. D. Schulze GmbH & Co. KG is a Dortmund, Germany-based producer and service provider founded in 1903, operating in the plastics and plastic products sector. The company manufactures Toxproof® polystyrene beads that avoid emissions of styrene and other partially volatile components; these TÜV-certified beads are used for filling nursing pillows and seat cushions. The firm's origins trace to the D & K Schulze steam brickworks, established by architects responding to building material demand, with backing from the Brambauer mine Minister Achenbach, which committed to purchasing bricks and supplying coal, while canal transport enabled distribution to distant buyers. In the 1930s the brickworks passed to Dietrich Schulze and his son Herbert, who later co-developed the first engobe machine with a Dortmund company, applying a thin ceramic coating to bricks.
