GRILLO-WERKE AG GESCHÄFTSBEREICH METALL

Grillo-Werke AG's metal division is a German producer founded in 1842 and based in Duisburg. The company's history includes zinc smelting at Duisburg-Hamborn from 1881, with liquid sulfur dioxide and sulfuric acid generated as by-products, and a rolling mill established in Hamborn after the turn of the century. By the start of World War II it had become Germany's largest maker of zinc semi-finished products and zinc white, and a supplier of SO2. Post-war reconstruction excluded the zinc smelter. Operations later concentrated in Duisburg-Hamborn and, from 1997, Frankfurt, while zinc oxide activities are located in Goslar. RHEINZINK, co-founded in 1966 and now fully owned, runs its rolling mill and administration in Datteln.
